Bedding is one of the most frequently used textiles in a home. It spends hours against the skin, then returns to the washing machine week after week. The way you care for it becomes part of how it feels.
For Egyptian cotton, a consistent routine can be simple: gentle washing, a mild detergent and careful drying. Begin with the care label on your particular piece, which sets the limits for temperature and treatment.
Keep the wash gentle
Separate light and dark colours before washing. Choose a gentle programme and a low spin setting, following the temperature shown on the label.
For everyday care, Brut Studios recommends washing bedding weekly. This gives you a regular opportunity to deal with marks before they become a more difficult part of the laundry routine.
Choose a mild detergent
Use a mild detergent and follow its dosing instructions for the load and water conditions. Keep the routine straightforward, avoiding bleach and fabric softener in line with our care guidance.
Cotton's feel also changes through use and washing. Give the fabric time to settle into your routine before deciding it needs an additional treatment.
Give drying some attention
Remove bedding promptly after the cycle finishes. Shake it out and gently ease it into shape while damp before hanging it to dry.
Air drying in a shaded space is our preferred approach. If you use a tumble dryer, check the label and select a low heat setting where permitted.
How you hang or arrange a large duvet cover is also worth considering. Leave it spread out so the surfaces have room to dry, rather than keeping it tightly folded over itself.
Treat marks before the next wash
Attend to stains promptly. Begin with cold water and gentle blotting, then use a suitable mild treatment according to its instructions. Avoid vigorous rubbing. More persistent marks may need a targeted approach compatible with the fabric and colour.
Make the finish your own
Some people enjoy bedding freshly pressed; others prefer the folds left by air drying. Shaking out and reshaping damp fabric can help reduce creasing. If you choose to iron, follow the label's setting.
A routine you can repeat comfortably is the most useful one: wash regularly, handle gently and give each piece time to dry fully before returning it to the bed.
